Age requirements
- 21 or older to purchase handguns and handgun ammunition
- 18 or older to purchase rifles, shotguns and ammunition for them
Age is verified in person by your transfer dealer using government-issued photo ID at the time of transfer.
Florida is stricter than federal law. Under section 790.065(13), Florida Statutes, a licensed dealer may not transfer any firearm — handgun or long gun — to a person under 21 years of age, with narrow statutory exceptions for law enforcement officers, correctional officers and servicemembers purchasing a rifle or shotgun. Florida also imposes a mandatory waiting period between purchase and delivery at retail, excluding weekends and legal holidays, under Article I, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution and section 790.0655, Florida Statutes, subject to statutory exceptions including holders of a valid Florida concealed weapon licence and trade-ins.
Several other states also set minimum ages above the federal floor, or impose their own waiting periods. The law of the state where your transfer takes place controls. Your transfer dealer will apply it, and the federal ages above are a minimum, not a guarantee that a transfer is lawful where you live.
Who may not purchase
You may not purchase a firearm or ammunition if you are prohibited under 18 U.S.C. 922(g). This includes, among other categories, anyone convicted of a felony, anyone subject to certain restraining orders, anyone convicted of a misdemeanour crime of domestic violence, anyone who is an unlawful user of controlled substances, and anyone dishonourably discharged from the armed forces. Your dealer will run a NICS background check before completing any transfer.
Firearms shipping
Firearms ship only to a licensed FFL dealer, never to a residential address, in every state. We verify each dealer’s licence against the ATF eZ Check database before shipping.
We do not ship firearms to California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey or New York, and we may decline orders to other states or localities where the specific item is restricted.
Ammunition shipping restrictions
Ammunition ships ground only and cannot travel by air.
We cannot ship ammunition directly to consumers in the following states and jurisdictions, which require transfer through a licensed vendor, a state-issued permit, or prohibit shipment entirely:
- California – must transfer through a licensed ammunition vendor
- New York – must transfer through a licensed dealer or registered seller
- Massachusetts – must transfer through a licensed dealer
- Illinois – FOID card required; we do not ship to Chicago or Cook County
- New Jersey – permit required for handgun ammunition
- Connecticut – state firearm or ammunition certificate required
- Washington, D.C. – shipment prohibited
Additional city and county restrictions may apply, including in Chicago and Cook County (IL), New York City, and parts of California.
Magazine capacity restrictions
Magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds cannot be shipped to certain states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and Washington, D.C. Capacity limits vary by state.
How we apply these restrictions
Restrictions are applied automatically at checkout based on your shipping destination and your transfer dealer’s address. If an item cannot lawfully be shipped to you, it will be blocked before you pay.

If a law changes and an order is already in progress, we will cancel and refund rather than ship unlawfully.
